I am writing this while sitting on my balcony looking out over the beautiful Cable Beach Resort. It’s a lovely 20 degrees at 6am in the morning. The temperature today is expected to get to 34. A nice contrast from Melbourne’s cold weather at the moment. I have just completed a breathtaking 12 day trek around the Kimberley’s with Adventure Wild, and all I can say is WOW WOW WOW… never in my wildest dreams did I expect it to be so beautiful and have so much fun camping in the outback of Australia. The tour guides, Mark & Carmel, totally look after you from start to finish. All stand up tents are permanently erected at each destination and all you do is unroll your swag at each stop. The swags are quite comfortable and you can request a stretcher if you like. All meals are prepared for you by the guides and you just assist with dishes which quickly becomes a great talking place around the camp.We started with Tunnel Creek which is a 750 metre cave walk where I got to get up close to a freshwater crocodile and then a relaxing walk to Windjana Gorge. We saw and swam in a lot of gorges and to just name a few there was Bell Gorge, Manning Gorge, Emma Gorge, El Questro Gorge, Cathedral Gorge and Geikie Gorge. My favourite highlights were Mitchell Falls, Bungle Bungles, Lake Argyle and Zebedee Hot Springs. The campsites we visited were Windjana Gorge, Mt Barnett Station, Home Valley Station, El Questro Station, Ivanhoe Village Caravan Park, Bungle Bungle Park and an exclusive campsite on a working cattle station.
The places I have seen and experienced on this tour have by far exceeded all my expectations. A reasonable level of fitness is required to hike into the spectacular gorges. You will need to be capable of walking up to 5 kilometres through bush land and uneven ground in the Kimberley warmth. The walks include dry riverbed and gorges where large rocks move underfoot. Many walks include stepping up and climbing down into and out of river beds.
I would highly recommend the tour and if you have any queries, drop by and have a chat to me.
