Part 2 — The journey continues As our 3 nights Part 2 — The journey continues

As our 3 nights in Melk docked onboard the ship came to an end, it was time to finally set sail and continue our journey along the Danube.

We headed towards Linz, where I experienced my first river lock, enjoyed more learning onboard and visited the incredibly moving Mauthausen Memorial.

From Linz, we spent a full day exploring Český Krumlov, which quickly became our favourite place of the entire trip. It was absolutely beautiful and so picturesque! 🤍

The following day we continued on to Passau, where we decided to explore independently and enjoyed a quiet morning wandering the city before heading back onboard to make the most of the ship.

There were plenty more special moments along the way — dinner at the Chef’s Table, the Sounds of Austria performance, time by the pool and, of course, finishing our cruise with an Oktoberfest celebration complete with beers, pretzels and live music! 🍻🥨

After leaving the ship in Vilshofen, we had one final day to explore Munich before heading to the airport — the perfect way to finish an incredible trip.

Overall, this was such an amazing experience with AmaWaterways. The destinations, experiences and ship were incredible, but what made it even more special was sharing it with new friends and the incredible team onboard AmaSofia.

I’ll be sharing one more post soon answering the questions I’ve had about the low river levels and how they affected our cruise — because I know this is something many of you are curious about!

I am halfway through our AmaWaterways Famil, so I I am halfway through our AmaWaterways Famil, so I thought I’d share a little update! 😊

We arrived in Budapest and had a night to explore before meeting up with the AmaWaterways group. The Danube is currently at some of its lowest water levels in years, so the itinerary has had a few changes. It could have been disappointing, but honestly it’s been impressive to see how well AmaWaterways has adapted everything to make sure we’re still getting the full experience.

As the ship wasn’t able to board guests in Budapest, we spent our first night with AmaWaterways at the beautiful Dorothea Hotel before transferring to Ama Sofia in Melk the following day. Along the way we stopped in beautiful Bratislava for a city tour before finally stepping onboard.

So far we’ve explored Melk Abbey, wandered the beautiful streets of Dürnstein, tried the local apricot schnapps, enjoyed a wine tasting in a monastery with a local winemaker, and finished the evening with an Imperial Waltz show onboard. Since we couldn’t overnight in Vienna, Ama brought a little bit of Vienna to us instead!

We’ve now also spent a day exploring the beautiful city of Vienna, ticking off some of its iconic sights and soaking up the history and charm.

So far it’s been such a great mix of history, culture, amazing scenery, great food and wine, and some truly memorable experiences. Looking forward to seeing what the second half of the trip has in store, and I’ll share another update once we’re back.

Abbey Alvin ✨
